Finally, a patio night for me!! The past two weeks have been rather hectic. Family visits, taxi duty for the kids, the never ending yard work (well the hubs does that, I mostly “oversee” the process)… After a busy day, I grabbed my bottle of the Hijo de Rubentis sparkling rose, reheated some jambalaya, made a salad and headed to the tranquility of my magical back patio. I had been hoarding this wonderful bottle of Spanish sparkling rose for a while now and it was the perfect night.
Best thing about this wine: it’s a fun and interesting sparkling rose wine that is a must try for the summer
Available at: Corkscrew Wine and Cheese (it may be by special request at this time)
By the bottle: under $30
Pairs well with the patio, friends and left over jambalaya
Try this if you like: Gruet rose

I had fallen in love with the regular rose by the same wine maker, so I was really looking forward to the sparkling version. I had done a bit of research on this one and found that Ameztoi Txakolina is one of the top producers of Getariako Txakolina. They own 20 hectares of vines in the best location in Spain. This rose is made from the indigenous grape varieties of Hondarribi Zuri and its’ red companion Hondarribi Beltza. The wines are fermented in stainless steel and bottled with residual carbonic acid that gives the wine its natural spritz. The white and red grapes are worked together, not separately.
This wine was well worth the wait. It was just what I had been wanting. It had a wonderful grapefruit color. The bubbles were small and effervescent with a slight taste of strawberries and red candied fruit. I found it had a bit of spice, orange zest and minerals on the long and bright finish. This was the perfect summer date!
