Elouan * Pinot Noir * 2015

About once a week we get together with our friends Katie and George for a couple glasses of wine. After I spent a week in Napa, they came over to hear about my trip. We shared a bottle of wine I brought back with me, which I will be writing about in the next few weeks, but I wanted to write about the exceptional wine they brought over!
The best thing about this wine: Great levels of complexity.
Available at: HyVee
By the bottle: $19.99
Pairs well with: Roasted chicken, tomato penne pasta, aged cheddar or goat cheese

This Pinot Noir is deep cherry-red in color and is richer and more full bodied than most Pinot Noirs I have had. This wine steadily opened up the more we drank it. On the nose it had a beautiful boutique of bing cherries, cranberries, subtle earthiness with a touch of spice.

On the palate there is a lot going on. Very powerful. It has intense flavors of spiced black cherries, raspberries with earthy notes. The rustic layers of flavor had hints of vanilla and sweet tobacco. The texture and weight of this wine created a nice, smooth long finish.

Oregon is known for their Pinot Noir’s and they certainly do it well. Outstanding bottle of Pinot Noir for under $20.

Cheers,

Heather
