Long Distance Ladies’ Night

Last night as I drank a bottle Petite Petit with my good friend in Dallas, I found myself wondering what we would do without technology. Even a distant friend seems much closer with just a smart phone, FaceTime, and a bottle of a favorite wine.

Available at: HyVee
By the bottle: $18.00
Pairs well with: BBQ, beef or pork tenderloin, dry or strong cheeses.

Ann and I met on Valentine’s day in 2002 after we won a radio contest. We had to call in to the station and tell them our worst dating experience. Well, it turned out that both Ann and I had some pretty horrific dating experiences because we both won a “ladies night out”. (Let’s just say I once had a date with a rodeo clown!) There were 10 of us total, and we won a night of pampering including a facial, pedicures, dinner and then an evening of bar hopping in a limousine. It was blizzard conditions so when the limo dropped us off at our cars they were covered in snow. Needless to say, after drinking all evening and 8-10 inches of snow on the ground a few of us got a hotel room and continued the night drinking and telling stories about our worst dating experiences.

Ann and I remained very good friends and met up for wine almost every weekend after that for years. We would try and find a new place to go each time that was fun and unique. That ubiquitous bottle of wine with the fun label of 2 elephants drinking wine? Of course that grabbed our attention and we bought it one night. It turned out to be one of our favorite wines and we have shared several bottles of this together. This last weekend I found it at Hy Vee on 132nd and Dodge on sale for 11.99!

This Petite Petit is 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Petit Verdot. It is deep purple in color with the most amazing aromas and nose. Rich vanilla, oak, spice, dark cherry, blackberries, black currants and plum. It is big and bold! There is nothing Petite about this!!

Thank goodness for facetime and a bottle of this Petite Petit Sirah, Ann and I were able to chat for hours last night as if we were sitting in the same room like old times.

Although, I usually don’t care for sirahs, this one sounds like a must-try. Thanks for piquing my interest with this fun blog!

You’re welcome Kim M. I’m glad you like the blog and I hope you will find many more must-try’s from reading our reviews. It is definitely a fun way to see what wines you can get in the Omaha market and at what price points.
